I just don’t get why Chel can’t be as important to him as Ava. I guess his coworkers were right to try to set him up with another girl, if he’s the type of person who can’t get on without romance.

It’s less serious than I thought if he’s actually delusionally optimistic about his “new life”, unless he’s just looking for reasons to kill himself when it inevitably fails. He’ll probably try to kill himself either way when it does, regardless of what his plans are. Maybe he’s just blowing off steam.

Probably be back in a week after a more serious than usual suicide attempt.

On one hand I’m hoping he’s leaving just coz he’s sick and tired of everything and wants a fresh start, otoh that kind of feels worse than if he’s leaving for more morbid reasons.

I suppose it’s because the former implies he has energy left he could be spending on improving the situation.

A week to a month?
I’ll be proud of Diego if he’s back in a couple of days.

Hmmm, I guess he could declare bankruptcy to fix the debt problems when he returns, though he'd have to cut a lot of costs (like therapy, he's probably not well informed enough for the cheaper options and his therapists look expensive).

At the risk of being even more spammy (Diego leaving just REALLY bugs me)... remember Metamorphoses 1? Diego's room is a shrine to loss, and you can spot 7-8 pictures with Ava there (and only one with himself in it), and another 2 pics in the next comic. Not a single picture of BCD are visibl, and he's barely even visible himself.
Diego is just entirely focused on loss instead of life, and it seems to be a problem that's been with him since his high-school years, if not earlier. It's great he was able to kick that habit when he had Ava, and dependency and codependency can be pretty great, and being happy is great, but can Diego only not be depressed when he's really happy...? Possibly even more specifically happy in a romance.
He hasn't taken up serious mind altering drugs to chase that kind of feeling chemically, but he has taken up addictive and draining boosters to cope.

I dunno, I just kinda wanna have access to Diego's brain and stimulate his romance centers and see if his depression vanishes... or just flood him with dopamine and endorphins, but I figure if that'd work he'd be (more of) a junkie already.

Hmmm, a lot of interesting parts, but perhaps the most useful part of love is how it might make Diego be less critical by weakening his frontal cortex activity, while also making him more OCD about positive things.

anyway...

"On Metamorphoses, Pt. 1 and Pt. 2," there's 9 visible pictures where a character can be clearly made out.

Visible People in Diego's Life in those 9 pictures:

Ava: 9
Diego: 1
Chel: 0
Ben: 0
Eva: 0

Yeah, I'll stop spamming now. Nuff said... he got high on Ava and he's still addicted. Harsh, but true.

But he did buy Chel that backpack and he does love his family.
Just wish he could actually realize how valuable they are to him.
